Andrew Driftwood was started in 2013 by the designer Aogu Otsuka, in Japan, after he came across a hoard of fine cloth that had lain forgotten in a shed in England. The brand works the way things were made before industry took over, when quality mattered more than quantity: hand-woven, dyed by traditional methods, and always with a craftsman's hand in it. Andrew himself is a fiction — a traveller combing the world for his driftwood, which might be anything he makes, sees or feels. So far the journey has turned up black tea in England and Japanese ink here in Japan, both of them dyes. It continues still. Nothing here belongs to a season. Every piece carries its own history, and is made to be kept as long as you would keep a bowl you love.
